Discussing the statement,'Setting long-term strategic objectives for a website is unrealistic since the rate of change in the marketplace is so rapid'.

Rawat, I. (2018)

In short... yes. We should definitely be encouraging organisations to set long-term strategic objectives for a website, no matter the change in the marketplace.

Why? Because although the marketplace is rapidly changing, things like the internet, communication and consumers are always going to be steady. The drivers are always expecting to have a more effective and efficient way for purchasing products and services, and websites allow for this to become a reality.

The internet revolutionised the world is so many ways. It, more importantly, has made the business marketplace a more easy and relevant way for connecting companies and consumers together. It has opened up doors for new markets, new products and affordable prices. Consumers do not have to go out and look for an item that they are unsure they will be able to find. They can just open up an electronic product and search the web for an item, that will be delivered to their front door. Businesses can offshore certain products from other businesses, for a more effective and affordable price. A businesses’ website is an innovative way to stay caught up with current trends and consumers ever-changing wants.

Another driver is communication, without a long-term strategic objective for a website, business owners have no way of communicating new products or services, new promotions/deals or being able to observe improvements in the organisation’s competitive position, profitability, employee relations and the image of a business.

The last drivers are the consumers of the products and services that your business supplies. If there are no long-term plans for your website how can the consumers be sure that you understanding their needs or if the business is growing with the current trends in the world.

Therefore, by setting long-term strategic objectives for a website, the organisation is ensuring that their products and services will still be relevant and effective for the consumers.
